Question 1

What does the Hadoop and big data engineering course cover?

Accepted Answer

The course teaches the platform as one system rather than a tool list. You start with the HDFS block, replication and NameNode, move to YARN resources and containers, write a MapReduce job and then the same job in Spark, model data in Hive with partitions and ORC, and finish with HBase, Sqoop, Flume and a scheduler. Every module is practised on a cluster you start yourself, because the certification tracks assume hands-on work.

Question 2

How is this different from the AWS Data Engineering course?

Accepted Answer

The AWS course teaches managed cloud services: Glue, Redshift, EMR, Kinesis and Lake Formation, all operated by the provider. This course teaches the open-source platform those services are built on, with your own NameNode, your own resource manager and your own cluster to break. The Hadoop stack, HDFS, YARN, MapReduce, Hive and HBase are all here, and none of the cloud service names appear in the syllabus.

Question 3

Which certification tracks sit on this stack?

Accepted Answer

Three do. The HDPC and HDP administrator objectives map onto cluster setup, service configuration, troubleshooting and availability. The Cloudera Data Engineer exam, code CDP-3002, is the hands-on engineering assessment: 50 questions in 90 minutes plus the performance tasks on a real cluster. The HDInsight path appears in the Microsoft data engineer role, where the same Hadoop, Hive and Spark work runs in a managed service.

Question 4

Do I need my own hardware to run the labs?

Accepted Answer

No, a single machine with 16 GB of memory is enough for the course cluster. We run the NameNode, the resource manager, the data nodes, Hive and a metastore as local processes against directories on disk, and we also deploy the same configuration to a few virtual machines when the module needs a genuine multi-node failure. The point is to make block replication and a failed node behave the way they do in production.

Question 5

Is MapReduce still worth learning, or is it Spark only?

Accepted Answer

Both, and the course is explicit about why. MapReduce explains the shuffle, the stage boundary and the failure semantics that Spark inherits, which is exactly what a data engineer needs when a job is slow. Spark then gives you the same result with less ceremony, and the course has you write the same computation twice so the difference is something you have seen rather than something you have read.

Question 6

What is the duration and fee?

Accepted Answer

Twelve weeks, three sessions a week of two hours each, totalling 72 hours, with the cluster work done in the session. Fees run from Rs 45,000 to Rs 75,000 depending on batch and mode, with classroom, live online and hybrid options and placement support through 200+ hiring partners. No cloud account and no paid distribution are required for the labs.

Question 7

What certificate do I receive?

Accepted Answer

A SkilBrill Course Completion Certificate for the full 72 hours of the programme, listing the modules completed and the Hadoop pipeline you built and scheduled. The certification itself is awarded by the examining body after you sit their assessment; the Cloudera Data Engineer credential, for example, is issued by Cloudera. We prepare you for the exam and assess your pipeline work; we do not issue the vendor credential.
