About Course
About Apache Kafka Engineering Training
Operate Apache Kafka yourself: the log, KRaft, consumer groups, transactions, tuning, ACLs and MirrorMaker, with no vendor platform.
Operating Kafka means holding one picture in your head at all times: which partition a record landed in, whether its replica is still in sync, and what the consumer group will do at the next rebalance. This course trains that picture, from the segment file on disk up to the metrics that show a cluster degrading, covering KRaft quorum recovery, delivery semantics, the Connect protocol, MirrorMaker, tuning, SASL and TLS, and access control. No vendor exam is attached, so every module is assessed on work you can defend.
Course Overview
12-week Apache Kafka training (72 hours) on the KRaft metadata quorum, consumer rebalancing, transactions, Connect, tuning, ACLs and monitoring.
Why Learn Apache Kafka Engineering Training
Every Indian consumer platform runs Kafka, and each has met a broker that died mid-write or a consumer group that rebalanced at the wrong moment. Managers hiring for streaming infrastructure screen with scenario questions about replication, lag and recovery, because the project awards no exam. This course supplies that evidence: a cluster you built, broke and repaired.
It moves you out of the tier where the on-call is handed to someone else. A runbook, a capacity note and a tuning change list drawn from your own measurements are what put streaming platform work in your hands, and they travel with you to the cluster. The assessment is internal, but the judgement is the one the job needs.
Who Should Join This Course
- Backend Engineers Running Broker Clusters — Taking the broker and its storage model well past the tutorial
- Data Engineers Building Event Pipelines — Reasoning about offsets, ordering and failure on the log itself
- Operations and SRE Teams — Owning capacity, lag and the on-call rotation for a streaming platform
- Java and JVM Engineers — Using the client libraries and the Connect protocol properly
- Consultants Migrating to Kafka — Planning the move off ZooKeeper onto the KRaft quorum
- Fresh Graduate Trainees — Entering streaming infrastructure work with depth on the log
Prerequisites
You should be comfortable with a command line, a JVM process and basic networking. Apache Kafka is operated, not clicked, and the first module assumes you can read a log and reason about a consumer group. No Kafka experience is required.
Learning Objectives
- Explain what a record does to a partition and how the log is indexed on disk
- Stand up a KRaft cluster and recover a failed controller quorum
- Trace a consumer group rebalance and choose the right assignment strategy
- Configure producer idempotence and transactions for the guarantee you need
- Design a retention and compaction policy that matches how the topic is used
- Build a Connect sink with the Connect protocol and a dead letter topic
- Read the metrics that show a disk-bound, network-bound or consumer-bound cluster
- Reproduce and resolve a production failure in a timed troubleshooting exercise
Certification Objectives Covered
The syllabus follows the published Apache Kafka objectives: Apache Kafka, KRaft, MirrorMaker 2, SASL and TLS, Consumer Groups, JMX and Prometheus Metrics, and the objective-to-topic map for the practitioner assessment, the timed troubleshooting exercise and the exam-day plan.

Hands-on Practice and Capstone
Capstone: You are given three empty machines and a requirement to run a keyed event stream for a billing service. You format the KRaft storage, form a three-broker quorum, and stand up a topic with replication factor three. You kill a broker mid-write, watch the in-sync replica set shrink, and restore it. You rebalance a consumer group to prove nothing is lost, add a sink connector with a dead letter topic, and finish with the runbook and capacity plan.
Production scenario: Throughput has halved since a disk was replaced, consumers are falling behind, and the team wants more brokers before the month-end billing run. Decide what you measure first, whether the bottleneck is disk, network or consumer side, and what you change on the broker if the fix must wait for the next maintenance window.
Course Duration, Mode and Certification
The course runs for 12 weeks (72 hours), three sessions a week of two hours each. Modes: Classroom / Live Online / Hybrid. Certificate issued: SkilBrill Course Completion Certificate. This programme prepares you for the Apache Kafka exam, which is booked and paid for with the vendor separately from the course fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Apache Kafka course cover?
The course works through the mechanics of the open-source broker: how a record enters a partition and is indexed, replication and the in-sync replica set, the KRaft metadata quorum that replaced ZooKeeper in 4.0, consumer groups and rebalancing, delivery semantics with idempotence and transactions, the Connect protocol, MirrorMaker, tuning, security with SASL, TLS and ACLs, and the metrics that tell you what is wrong. It is a hands-on engineering course with no vendor exam attached.
How is this different from the Confluent certification course?
The Confluent course teaches a commercial platform and prepares you for a proctored vendor credential: Schema Registry subject rules, the managed Confluent Cloud offering, its networking and access model, and the six domains of the CCDAK exam. This course sticks to the Apache project and the job of operating it: broker internals, storage, replication, tuning and the failure modes you own at 3am. Nothing here depends on a Confluent licence or a Confluent exam.
Why does the course spend a module on KRaft?
Kafka 4.0 removed ZooKeeper entirely, so a quorum of controllers now holds the cluster metadata and there is no external coordination service to run. That changes how you bootstrap a cluster, how you add and replace a controller, and how you recover when metadata is lost. The module covers formatting storage, the combined and separated controller modes, snapshots and metadata log compaction, and a full quorum recovery exercise.
Is there an Apache Kafka certification exam?
There is not. The Apache Kafka project awards no certification of its own, and Confluent is a separate company with its own credential. This course is therefore assessed internally: a practical capstone, a timed troubleshooting exercise, and a written assessment of the runbook and tuning decisions you produce. If a hiring manager asks for a Kafka credential, the Confluent course is the one that carries a vendor badge.
What do I need to run the labs?
A machine with 16 GB of memory and three or four local hosts is enough, because the labs use a small cluster on loopback interfaces rather than a cloud account. You need a JDK to run the brokers, and comfort with a command line, a configuration file and a log file. We use the standard distribution scripts, so the same commands apply to a real cluster later.
What is the duration and fee?
Twelve weeks, three sessions a week of two hours each, totalling 72 hours, with the cluster work carried out alongside the sessions. Fees run from Rs 45,000 to Rs 75,000 depending on batch and mode, with classroom, live online and hybrid options and placement support through 200+ hiring partners. No paid cloud broker is required for any lab, which keeps the running cost of the course at zero.
What certificate do I receive?
A SkilBrill Course Completion Certificate for the full 72 hours of the programme, listing the modules completed and the cluster you built, broke and repaired. There is no vendor credential for open-source Kafka, so the certificate records the assessed work and the internal examination result. We assess your lab submissions and practical exercises; nothing here is issued by the Apache Software Foundation.
