About Course
About Professional ScrumMaster I Training (Scrum.org PSM I)
Knowledge-proven rather than attendance-earned: the twelve principles, the assessment format and the paid exam anyone can sit.
The PSM I assessment is a paid exam that anyone can sit, and no course can sit it for you, so what it rewards is evidence: take a real team, find the constraint, change something, and keep what the numbers did afterwards. The twelve principles and the framework theory are worked as diagnosis tools for that job, because a principle you cannot apply to the team in front of you is a line in a revision sheet.
Course Overview
12-week PSM I training: the twelve Scrum principles, self-managing teams, empiricism, the Definition of Done and the paid 80-question Scrum.org assessment.
Why Learn Professional ScrumMaster I Training (Scrum.org PSM I)
The PSM I is the credential Indian employers use when they want proof that a candidate has read the framework rather than attended a workshop: it needs no experience, no certification and no class, so the result carries the whole claim. Interviews test two things, diagnosing a team that is not self-managing and reading the system around the work.
Once you hold it, the argument about whether you know Scrum stops and the discussion moves to whether you can improve a delivery system. It never expires and carries no renewal fee, so you keep it without annual paperwork, and the systems framing carries into SAFe, Kanban and hybrid environments where the same diagnosis is needed at a larger scale.
Who Should Join This Course
- Anyone starting in Agile delivery — Earning a Scrum credential without a day of work experience
- Developers and QA Engineers — Learning the framework that governs the team they work in
- Team Leads and Engineering Managers — Preparing to coach a self-managing team instead of directing it
- Product Owners and Business Analysts — Understanding how the product decision actually gets made
- Project Managers moving to Agile — Replacing stage plans with Sprints and empiricism
- Career changers from non-IT work — Entering Scrum through a credential that needs no background
Prerequisites
No prior Scrum certification is required, and PSM I is open to anyone. You need to be able to read the Scrum Guide closely and explain why each part exists, because the assessment rewards a practitioner who can defend the method rather than recite it. Assessment is a practical test plus a paid exam.
Learning Objectives
- Pass the 80-question PSM I assessment at 85% and read the Scrum Guide closely
- Explain all twelve Scrum principles and the three empiricism pillars
- Tell the difference between a framework, a method and a prescriptive process
- Coach a team towards self-management without taking its decisions away
- Write a Definition of Done that stops the argument about what is finished
- Decide when a Scrum Team should be reorganised rather than coached harder
- Improve one real process in your own team and show the evidence
Certification Objectives Covered
The syllabus follows the published Scrum.org PSM I objectives: Scrum.org PSM I, Twelve Scrum Principles, Scrum Team Diagnosis, Empiricism, Definition of Done, Assessment Preparation and the twelve-principle team audit sheet, the Definition of Done template, and timed 80-question practice assessments.

Hands-on Practice and Capstone
Capstone: Audit a real team you work in against the twelve principles, write a Definition of Done the team can meet, and run one improvement cycle on a live process with the evidence kept: what you measured, what changed, and what the numbers did afterwards. Finish with a timed 80-question practice assessment and a review of your score by focus area.
Production scenario: Your team says it is self-managing but every decision still comes to you, and the Product Owner treats the backlog as a wish list. Decide which of the twelve principles is failing first, what you would change in the next four weeks, and how you would show that the change worked.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is PSM I training at SkilBrill?
It is preparation for the Scrum.org Professional ScrumMaster I assessment, a knowledge-proving exam that anyone can sit. The course covers the twelve principles of Scrum, the framework theory, self-managing teams, empiricism and the Definition of Done, then rehearses the assessment itself across 12 weeks and 72 hours.
How is this different from the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course?
Three things differ. The CSM is earned by attending an authorised course with the exam bundled, and it must be renewed every three years; PSM I is a separate paid exam, open to any candidate and never renewed. The CSM exam has 60 questions with a 70% pass mark; PSM I has 80 questions in 60 minutes and needs 85%. This course prepares you for PSM I.
Who can sit the PSM I assessment?
Anyone. There is no prerequisite certification, no minimum experience and no requirement to attend a class. You can take the assessment without ever sitting in a training room, which is why this course is built around exam craft rather than attendance credit. Training helps, but passing the assessment is what earns the credential.
What is the PSM I assessment like?
It is 80 questions in 60 minutes with a passing score of 85%, taken online with the Scrum Guide open in front of you. Questions are multiple choice, multiple answer and true or false, and they test application rather than recall: a team is described, a decision is in front of you, and you choose what a professional ScrumMaster would do. At 45 seconds a question, the clock is the real constraint.
What does the PSM syllabus cover?
Eight modules: the assessment and what it costs to sit, the framework theory, the twelve principles one by one, the accountabilities and self-managing teams, events and artifacts in practice, empiricism and the Definition of Done, the professional ScrumMaster as a systems thinker, and a capstone built on a live team audit and a timed practice paper.
What is the duration and fee?
Twelve weeks, three sessions a week of two hours each, totalling 72 hours, with the practice assessment scheduled inside the course. Fees run from Rs 35,000 depending on batch and mode, with classroom, live online and hybrid options. The Scrum.org exam fee is separate and paid directly to Scrum.org.
What certificate do I receive?
A SkilBrill Course Completion Certificate for the full 72 hours of the programme. The PSM I credential is issued by Scrum.org after you pass the assessment, it does not expire, and it carries no renewal fee. SkilBrill prepares you for that assessment; it does not issue it.
